The purpose of Respect & Remember Europe e.V. is the following:
- Supporting local forms of remembrance of individual victims of the Shoah, e.g. plates well above ground (at eye level on public places) rather than stumbling stones.
- Remembering victims of the Shoah at central places, e.g. through monuments or multimedia internet portals.- Supporting and realizing valuable teaching projects dealing with the subject of the Shoah in school classes and places of respectful commemoration.
- Organizing talks and seminars as well as collaborations with other institutions related to the Shoah
- Supporting and preparing documentation, research and publications about the Shoah,
- Organizing exchanges with non-Jewish religious groups, other groups of victims as well as representatives from politics, science, arts/artists and other members of the public
- Hosting cultural events in line with the aims of Respect & Remember Europe e.V.- Promoting arts and culture related to the Shoah
- Supporting survivors of the Shoah and their families (one project since March 2022: support of 240 jewish orphans from Odessa in Romania), fight against antisemitism and Jew-Israelhate.
We advise communities to develop and find worthy remembrance projects for themselves. Respect & Remember Europe e.V. rejects the remembrance of victims of the Shoah in form of “stumbling stones”. Stumbling stones carry attributes of the NS dictatorship and lack respectful communication with relatives and descendants of the victims. The stumbling stones are commercialized, which is inherently disrespectful, and monopolized by one supplier.
